Newsletter June 2016
What an incredible start to the month of June and the good weather is due to continue right through the bank holiday weekend! Remember all first round Championship matches are to be played by June 4th.
It seems ironic to be talking about wet courts, but we would ask members not to play on the courts if there has been a lot of rain. This is to avoid damaging the courts and prolong the playing season.
We would also ask members to assist the committee by helping with the following:
- Turn off lights when leaving the club house and close the door and gate.
- Ensure that all rubbish is placed in the bins provided and please remind children to use the bins also.
- Advise a committee member if any item needs attention in the club house or grounds.
- Keep the club house generally clean.
Predominately white tennis clothing should be worn on court at all times. Track suits may be worn for warming up or in cold weather.
Our Men’s Fingal League team has won the league for the second year running. The men’s panel was made up of Frank McMahon, Philip Matthews, John Hartnett, Ronan Reynolds, Jon Sedgwick, Joe Stanley, Jonathan Law, Damian Quilligan, Turlough Hamill, John Carroll, Kumar Chalasani, Graham Smith, David Hughes, Jim Ryan, Donal Mulcahy and Andrew Blair. Well done to all involved.
The Ladies team has one more match to play and are in a strong position at the top of their section along with Portmarnock. On the ladies panel are Linda Daly, Aileen O’Flynn, Pat Scott, Audrey Lynch, Carol Murray, Judith Blair, Kay O’Neill, Mary Ryan, Mary Anglim, Aoife O’Flynn, Linda Duffy, Alison Devally, Muireann McAlister and Liz Butler.
June Events at the Grove:
Our very popular Tennis & Pizza event will be continuing every Saturday for 10 to 14 year olds. This takes place from 5 to 7pm. Many thanks to Una Kearns for setting up the event and to the many parents who help out. The under 12 Friday Tournament will also be continuing at 3pm for the month of June.
There is an Adult & Child event on Sunday, June 5th at 2pm. There will be burgers and hot dogs after the tennis and the popular ice cream van will be there to provide some cool refreshments.
On Monday, June 6th we will have the second of our very popular adult mixed bank holiday tournaments after which tea/coffee and scones will be served.
Note: Adult Coaching will not take place on Monday June 6th. It will resume on June 13th. The last session is June 20th.
Boys Night Out and Girls Night Out, take place on June 10th and June 24th respectively. Places are filling up quickly for the Girls night out, but there are plenty of places left for the Boys night out. These events are a real highlight on the social calendar!
Please add your names to the lists in the club house.
